To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, David W. Wood, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brazil, in the county of Clay and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Safety-Razor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to safety razors, and an object of my invention is to provide a safety razor which is adapted to all portions of the face, and which will give a transversely shearing cut when drawn longitudinally across the same.

A further object of my invention is to provide a razor simple in construction and convenient of manipulation in assembling and separating of parts.

I attain the above outlined objects by mounting in a suitable form of holder, a thin flexible blade, the cutting edge of which is flexed in both directions out of the plane of the blade, to form a corrugated cutting edge.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which—

Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a preferred embodiment of my invention, and also showing the holder in section on the line 1—1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is a plan view looking down upon the device, a portion of the handle being omitted; Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the top of the holder with the cap and blade removed; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blade; and Fig. 5 is a partial front elevation of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrow.

Described more in detail, I have shown a holder 6, extending centrally from the under side of which is a boss 7, and projecting angularly from this boss is any suitable form of handle 8. The top of the holder is adapted to support a flat rectangular flexible blade 9, said holder having a curved upper surface, as shown more particularly in Fig. 1. The holder 6 has teeth 10 extending from transversely opposite edges, to form a guard for the cutting edges 11 of the blade 9. Disposed on top of the blade and having its under side conforming substantially to the curved top of the holder 6, is a cap 12, depending centrally from which cap is a bolt 13 projecting centrally through the boss 7 and held in position by means of a milled nut 14 engaging the lower threaded end 15 of the bolt and bearing on the boss, so as to draw said cap firmly into engagement with the blade 9 and holder 6. The cap 12 has a series of teeth 16 extending through the edge thereof and disposed above and between the adjacent teeth 10 of the holder 6.

When the cap 12 is forced down on to the holder 6, the teeth 16 will depress the flexible cutting edge 11 of the blade 9 against the teeth 10, causing the cutting edge of the blade to assume the corrugated edge 17, shown more particularly in Fig. 5. It will be noted that by this arrangement, a transverse shearing cut will be obtained in drawing the razor across the face. It will also be noted by referring more particularly to Fig. 2, that the cutting edge 11 of the blade is disposed between the line of edges of the holder and cap.

If desired, the cap may have depending lugs 18 adapted to pass through openings 19 in the blade, and adapted to be inserted in holes 20 in the holder, so as to hold the members from rotation as is common with devices of this character, it being noted that there are four holes in the blade 9, so that all four cutting edges of the rectangular blade may be used.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In combination with a holder having spaced-apart teeth projecting from one side thereof, a normally flat resilient blade carried by said holder and having its cutting edge resting on said teeth, and a cap disposed on said blade and having teeth overlapping the spaces between the teeth of the holder, whereby when said cap and holder are pressed toward each other, the cutting edge of said blade will be flexed between the sets of teeth, to form corrugations transversely of the plane of the blade.

2. A safety razor, comprising a holder rectangular in plan and having an upper face curved downwardly in opposite directions from a transverse central line, each lower edge of said curved face being in the form of spaced-apart teeth, a normally flat flexible blade adapted to rest on said curved face, said blade having a pair of oppositely-disposed cutting edges adapted to rest on said teeth, and a cap carried by said holder having an under face conforming in configuration to the top face of the holder, said cap having teeth registering with the spaces between the teeth of the holder and adapted to bear upon said blade to curve the same and to corrugate the opposite cutting edges of said blade.

3. A safety razor, comprising a holder rectangular in plan and having an upper face curved downwardly in opposite directions from a transverse central line, each lower edge of said curved face being in the form of spaced-apart teeth, a normally flat flexible blade adapted to rest on said curved face, said blade having a pair of oppositely-disposed cutting edges adapted to rest on said teeth, a cap carried by said holder having an under face conforming in configuration to the top face of the holder, said cap having teeth registering with the spaces between the teeth of the holder and adapted to bear upon said blade to curve the same and to corrugate the opposite cutting edges of said blade, means carried by the holder for drawing said cap and holder firmly into engagement, and means maintaining said blade in position between said holder and cap.
